Radical Translation
My reactions to this radical translation is it's very different and it's something i didn't expect. The radical translation I feel got the audience more involved and it had a bigger impact because it is close to being in the present . It was also in color and it had different scenarios and it was in a different part of the world. Yea, I feel it maintains the integrity of the original text because in both movies it's aout a boy who falls in love with a girl and trys to keep her for himself and it is about that boy trying to find his benefactor. I like the changes the director/screenwriter made because it got me involved and it kept my focus. It showed stuff that actually can happen and happens in real life.

Film Translation
I think that a good screenwriter, the appropriate book, the right timing and effort put into it make the translation a successful and effective one. Three evaluative criteria that I think are essential for assessing a film translation are 1. Dubbing and Subtitling- modifying and translating the text because you have to put it into ways that people can understand and enjoy the film, 2. Characters and Actors- If you don't have the right actors the way things are said or shown might not be the way you wanted to actually portray them. In certain movies you can leave out a main character from the book, make a minor character a main character or make a main character aminor character, 3. Caring and Respecting the material- If you don't care about what you are doing why do it? If you are just going to throw a movie together because you were hired to, don't do it I would want to make sure you are familiar with the material and the topic before you start making a movie on it.
My Thoughts
My reactions to "Adaptations" was that I was really confused throughout the movie. I felt lost alot then some of the other times i knew exactly what was going on. I felt the movie was all over the place. It seemed like some stuff wasn't really happening and some other stuff was. I realized how hard it was to change a book into a movie and how much dedication it takes. It is like a high school sport, you dedicate all your time into it and have no social life. I also realized that you have to pick out every little detail and decide on if you are going to put it in or keep it out of the movie.
